I was caught off guard without good equipment, so this shot was somewhat serendipitous. The picture was taken with a Canon digital elf when I was in Painted Canyon near the town of Mecca, immediately east of the Salton Sea, California. This picture was actually captured by holding my camera (yes, it was actually hand held) up to the eye-piece of a spotting scope that was set up on the tool box of my truck. I'm sure there are much better pictures of the moon, but this one brings back memories of the occasional stirring of warm desert air and the random grains of sand in my sleeping bag.
